THERAPY DOG PROGRAM

Meet Stewie, the Wichita Police Department's Therapy Dog!

WPD has launched this pilot program as it seeks evidence-based practices to deliver exceptional police services. The pilot program and dog are assigned to a community policing unit.

Stewie's handler, Ofc. Alli Larison, will be focused on de-escalation, juveniles in crisis, mental health, intense and traumatic call intervention, officer wellness, school outreach, and more. Ofc. Larison and Stewie participated in an advanced forty-hour training course certification at the Paws & Stripes College in Brevard County, Florida. Training focused on obedience, behavioral observation, vehicle operations, investigative interview techniques, and work place adjustment.
